Details

When a collection has grown past the point where a cooler or a closet conversion can do the job properly, the Contemporary 5200 in Provincial Cherry is the kind of cabinet that resolves the question for good. It holds 622 bottles across double-deep all-wood racking and bulk stacking space, managed by a CellarPro cooling unit that maintains precise temperature and humidity simultaneously — the difference that separates true long-term aging storage from a refrigerator with good looks. The warm Provincial Cherry veneer and gently arched double-pane tinted glass doors are at home in a dining room, a finished basement or a second home, without announcing themselves as appliances.

The CellarPro unit runs on SB/0™ technology, meaning the cabinet sits flush against the wall with top-vent exhaust — no clearance gap, no awkward placement constraints. Inside, the all-wood interlocking racks use 3.8-inch slots sized to accommodate oversized Burgundy and Rhône bottles alongside standard Bordeaux formats. A digital thermostat, adjustable humidity control, energy-saver and quick-chill modes and both audible and visual alarms give you the monitoring depth a serious cellar requires. Foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation keeps the thermal load stable and the CellarPro unit quiet under normal conditions.

What These Specs Mean

  • Startup Amps vs. Running Amps: Startup amps reflect the brief current surge when the compressor first engages; values up to 20.1 Amps mean a dedicated 20-amp circuit is required to prevent tripping a breaker.
  • Cooling Unit Options (QTL / QT / XT): Three CellarPro 1800-series units are available for this cabinet; they differ in noise output and thermal capacity, so use the Thermal Load Calculations link to match the right unit to your room's heat load.
  • Double Deep Racking: Bottles are stored two rows deep per slot, maximizing capacity within the cabinet footprint but requiring bottles in the back row to be moved to access the front row.

Placement Requirements

PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS

POWER REQUIREMENT:
The power cord extends 6 1/2 feet from the rear of the cabinet. If an extension cord is used, it should be 14-gauge wire or thicker, grounded, and as short as possible.

The cooling unit plugs into a standard grounded wall outlet. We recommend adding a surge protector, rated at 15 amps or more (for example, click here), to protect the cooling unit from power surges.

The outlet must be on a dedicated circuit. The components of the cooling unit draw 3 amps, and the electric outlet on the side of the cooling unit also is rated for 3 amps. The cooling unit should not, under any circumstances, share a circuit with another motor or compressor-based appliance, like a wine cooler, fridge, air conditioner, or garage opener.

FLOOR SURFACE
Because of the significant weight of your wine cabinet, it is important that it be placed on a hard surface; otherwise, the cabinet may become skewed if the doors settle unevenly over time. If you will be placing your cabinet on thick carpeting, consider placing a carpet board underneath the wine cabinet. You can purchase a carpet board from Le Cache, or you can have your local hardware store cut a 3/4 inch plywood board to the following dimensions: 45w x 25d (inches).

DOOR SWING CLEARANCE
The doors of our wine cabinets swing wide by approximately 1 inch when open at 90 degrees. The additional width should be accounted for when purchasing cabinets that do not have moldings because the stated widths of our wine cabinets do not account for the door swing. Please note that the additional width is required in front of the cabinet.

WEIGHT LOAD FACTOR
After loading your wine cabinet with wine bottles, it will be extremely heavy. When selecting a location for your cabinet, make sure that the floor underneath is strong enough to support the weight of the cabinet.

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS
CellarPro cooling units are designed to handle temperatures ranging from 50 to 95F.

VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS
The cooling unit generates hot air that must be exhausted in such a way that it won't be recirculated by the cooling unit. If the hot air cannot be dissipated or channeled properly, and the cooling unit is forced to recycle its own hot air, the cooling unit will be unable to maintain cold temperatures inside the wine cabinet and/or will overheat and/or will run all the time. Proper ventilation can be achieved in one of three ways:

  • 1. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH TOP-VENT CONFIGURATIONS
Our upright wine cabinets have been engineered with top-vent cooling units and SB/0 Technology so that they can be placed right up against the wall. In this configuration, the hot air generated by the cooling unit is ventilated through the top of the wine cabinet, and the return air comes from above the wine cabinet, so there must be clearance above and to the sides of the cabinets for the hot air to dissipate, as follows:
    • Contemporary wine cabinets, Carolina wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets, Vault wine cabinets and a Semi-Custom wine cabinets require 18 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
    • European Country wine cabinets and Mission wine cabinets require 12 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
    • The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
  • 2. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH Rear-Vent Configurations
Our upright wine cabinets can be configured so that the return air comes from behind the wine cabinet. This configuration is useful in situations where sufficient clearance around the wine cabinet doesn't exist. In this configuration:
    • If the rear of the wine cabinet is not accessible, a minimum clearance of 7 1/2 inches above the wine cabinet is required for removal and replacement of the cooling unit air filter.
    • If the rear of the wine cabinet is accessible, a minimum clearance of 3 inches above the wine cabinet is required for proper airflow, and we recommend using our air deflector to direct the hot air exhaust to the left of the wine cabinet.
    • In all cases, the wine cabinet must be placed 3-4 inches away from the rear wall.
    • The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
  • 3. UPRIGHT CABINETS with Front-Vent Hoods
If you want to place the wine cabinet flush against the wall but you don't have the required clearance (as outlined in Configuration 1 above), or you want to place the wine cabinet in an enclosed space, closet, or alcove, our front-vent hood (placed on top of the wine cabinet) can be used with 7 1/2 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet for removal of the hood and the air filter. Please note:
    • Contemporary wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets and Vault wine cabinets can use our front vent hood with OR without the decorative grill.
    • European Country wine cabinets, Mission wine cabinets and Carolina wine cabinets can use our front vent hood without the decorative grill (the decorative grill will not fit with crown moldings).

4. CREDENZA WINE CABINETS
Credenza wine cabinets don't require any clearance above the wine cabinet; however, all credenzas require 3-4 inches of space behind the wine cabinet because all the ventilation (intake and exhaust) occurs behind the cabinet.

Please note:
(1) We count the top of the racks as 1 row when counting rows in our racks.
(2) Every slot in the racks is 3 3/4" and sized to fit oversized Burgundy and most Champagne-size bottles.
(3) Bulk storage is located atop the racks (except for the first row atop the racks). Bulk storage capacity is based on Bordeaux-size bottles.
(4) Total capacity is the sum of racked plus bulk capacity, with double-deep storage in all cases except the Contemporary Credenza (which is single-deep). Usable capacity may be lower by 2-3 bottles when the first few cells under the cooling unit are left empty for proper air circulation.

Q&A

Can the Le Cache 5200 Provincial be placed flush against a wall, or does it need clearance behind it?

A: The 5200 uses Le Cache's SB/0™ Technology, which routes exhaust through a top-vent rather than the rear. This means the cabinet can sit completely flush against a wall with zero rear clearance required — a significant advantage over rear-exhaust coolers when placing a unit this large in a dining room, living space or finished basement.

What is the actual bottle capacity, and does it accommodate oversized bottles like magnums?

A: Total rated capacity is 622 bottles: 544 racked slots at 3.8-inch spacing (double-deep) and approximately 78 bottles in bulk stacked storage. The all-wood interlock racks are universal and designed to fit oversized bottles, so heavier Burgundy-shaped bottles and magnums can be accommodated without modification.

Does the 5200 manage humidity, or is it just a temperature-controlled cooler?

A: The 5200 provides active, adjustable humidity control via the CellarPro unit — not just temperature. This is the key distinction between a true wine cabinet and a standard wine cooler or refrigerator. Coolers and refrigerators remove humidity as a byproduct of cooling, which dries out corks over time. The 5200 is engineered for long-term aging with both temperature and humidity maintained at proper cellar conditions.

What are the electrical requirements, and do I need a dedicated circuit?

A: The cabinet runs on 115V AC / 60 Hz standard household current. Three CellarPro cooling unit options are available: the 1800QTL-ECX draws 2.4 running amps / 14.2 startup amps; the 1800QT-ECX draws 2.9 / 20.1 amps; and the 1800XT-ECX draws 3.0 / 20.1 amps. Because startup amp draw can reach 20 amps on the QT and XT models, a dedicated 20-amp circuit is strongly recommended to avoid tripping a shared breaker.

What does the warranty cover and for how long?

A: Le Cache provides a 2-year warranty on the full cabinet and a separate 5-year warranty specifically on the CellarPro cooling unit. An optional extended warranty is also available for buyers who want coverage beyond those terms. The split warranty structure reflects that the cabinet construction and the refrigeration system are treated as distinct components with different expected service intervals.

How large is the 5200 and what should I know before delivery?

A: The cabinet measures 74 inches wide x 29 inches deep x 86 inches tall and weighs 510 lbs. At 74 inches wide, verify both your final placement opening and any doorways along the delivery path before scheduling. Le Cache provides a Wine Cabinet Delivery & Inspection Instructions document that outlines the full pre-delivery checklist. In-stock units ship within 5–7 days.

Cooling units failed 3 times in 9 years… moving on

by

We have this unit since 2016. We have had 3 cooling units QL1800 fail. They did not cover under warranty. Considering replacing entire unit with new upright coolers, NOT from IWA….

10 years and still awesome!

by

I have had this unit in my daylight basement for 10 years. It is awesome! Never have had a problem with it. I got the lock on the doors, not to keep folks out - they all know where the key is, but to keep the doors closed if we get an earthquake, which can happen in Oregon. Don't want a bottle cascade . I did stack too many different shape bottles on the top of the rack once and one fell - my fault. I'd say keep that stack to one or two rows of the same shape bottle. But really -no problems with the refrigeration unit, the cabinet is beautifully built and handles all the different bottles well. And most importantly, I can decide when to drink my wine over a much wider window without worrying that it will go off. Great product.

Beautiful piece

by

We just received our wine fridge. While we haven’t used it yet, it is beautiful. It is as described and a very solid, heavy piece. We are going to have it built in to look custom and I think it will work perfectly. We are looking forward to using it!
