Details

If your collection has grown beyond what a cooler can manage and you want it living in your dining room — not hidden away — the Le Cache Mission Credenza is one of the few wine cabinets that holds its own as furniture. Designed by Berkeley Mills, a Berkeley-based maker known for its arts & crafts work, the Provincial Cherry finish reads warm and substantial in a room with dark hardwood floors or traditional millwork. At 39 inches tall and 69 inches wide, it sits at credenza height and leaves a generous flat top for serving or display. Inside, a CellarPro cooling unit manages both temperature and humidity with digital precision — the difference that separates a true aging cabinet from a wine cooler.

The construction reflects what long-term storage actually requires: foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation, sealed seams, tinted double-pane glass for UV protection and SB/0™ flush-wall technology that eliminates the rear clearance gap most cabinets demand. The all-wood interlock racking holds 150 bottles in 3.8-inch slots that accommodate oversized formats, with additional bulk space for roughly two more cases. Hand-carved door trim, ebony accents and pewter pulls are the details that make this look deliberate rather than utilitarian.

What These Specs Mean

  • Running / Startup Amps: Running amps reflect steady-state power draw during normal operation; startup (inrush) amps are the brief surge when the compressor engages and determine the minimum circuit breaker capacity your electrical circuit must support.
  • Double Deep storage: Bottles are racked two rows deep per slot, which maximizes capacity within the cabinet footprint but means front bottles must be moved to access those stored in the rear row.

Placement Requirements

PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS

POWER REQUIREMENT:
The power cord extends 6 1/2 feet from the rear of the cabinet. If an extension cord is used, it should be 14-gauge wire or thicker, grounded, and as short as possible.

The cooling unit plugs into a standard grounded wall outlet. We recommend adding a surge protector, rated at 15 amps or more (for example, click here), to protect the cooling unit from power surges.

The outlet must be on a dedicated circuit. The components of the cooling unit draw 3 amps, and the electric outlet on the side of the cooling unit also is rated for 3 amps. The cooling unit should not, under any circumstances, share a circuit with another motor or compressor-based appliance, like a wine cooler, fridge, air conditioner, or garage opener.

FLOOR SURFACE
Because of the significant weight of your wine cabinet, it is important that it be placed on a hard surface; otherwise, the cabinet may become skewed if the doors settle unevenly over time. If you will be placing your cabinet on thick carpeting, consider placing a carpet board underneath the wine cabinet. You can purchase a carpet board from Le Cache, or you can have your local hardware store cut a 3/4 inch plywood board to the following dimensions: 45w x 25d (inches).

DOOR SWING CLEARANCE
The doors of our wine cabinets swing wide by approximately 1 inch when open at 90 degrees. The additional width should be accounted for when purchasing cabinets that do not have moldings because the stated widths of our wine cabinets do not account for the door swing. Please note that the additional width is required in front of the cabinet.

WEIGHT LOAD FACTOR
After loading your wine cabinet with wine bottles, it will be extremely heavy. When selecting a location for your cabinet, make sure that the floor underneath is strong enough to support the weight of the cabinet.

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS
CellarPro cooling units are designed to handle temperatures ranging from 50 to 95F.

VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS
The cooling unit generates hot air that must be exhausted in such a way that it won't be recirculated by the cooling unit. If the hot air cannot be dissipated or channeled properly, and the cooling unit is forced to recycle its own hot air, the cooling unit will be unable to maintain cold temperatures inside the wine cabinet and/or will overheat and/or will run all the time. Proper ventilation can be achieved in one of three ways:

  • 1. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH TOP-VENT CONFIGURATIONS
Our upright wine cabinets have been engineered with top-vent cooling units and SB/0 Technology so that they can be placed right up against the wall. In this configuration, the hot air generated by the cooling unit is ventilated through the top of the wine cabinet, and the return air comes from above the wine cabinet, so there must be clearance above and to the sides of the cabinets for the hot air to dissipate, as follows:
    • Contemporary wine cabinets, Carolina wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets, Vault wine cabinets and a Semi-Custom wine cabinets require 18 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
    • European Country wine cabinets and Mission wine cabinets require 12 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
    • The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
  • 2. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH Rear-Vent Configurations
Our upright wine cabinets can be configured so that the return air comes from behind the wine cabinet. This configuration is useful in situations where sufficient clearance around the wine cabinet doesn't exist. In this configuration:
    • If the rear of the wine cabinet is not accessible, a minimum clearance of 7 1/2 inches above the wine cabinet is required for removal and replacement of the cooling unit air filter.
    • If the rear of the wine cabinet is accessible, a minimum clearance of 3 inches above the wine cabinet is required for proper airflow, and we recommend using our air deflector to direct the hot air exhaust to the left of the wine cabinet.
    • In all cases, the wine cabinet must be placed 3-4 inches away from the rear wall.
    • The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
  • 3. UPRIGHT CABINETS with Front-Vent Hoods
If you want to place the wine cabinet flush against the wall but you don't have the required clearance (as outlined in Configuration 1 above), or you want to place the wine cabinet in an enclosed space, closet, or alcove, our front-vent hood (placed on top of the wine cabinet) can be used with 7 1/2 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet for removal of the hood and the air filter. Please note:
    • Contemporary wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets and Vault wine cabinets can use our front vent hood with OR without the decorative grill.
    • European Country wine cabinets, Mission wine cabinets and Carolina wine cabinets can use our front vent hood without the decorative grill (the decorative grill will not fit with crown moldings).

4. CREDENZA WINE CABINETS
Credenza wine cabinets don't require any clearance above the wine cabinet; however, all credenzas require 3-4 inches of space behind the wine cabinet because all the ventilation (intake and exhaust) occurs behind the cabinet.

Please note:
(1) We count the top of the racks as 1 row when counting rows in our racks.
(2) Every slot in the racks is 3 3/4" and sized to fit oversized Burgundy and most Champagne-size bottles.
(3) Bulk storage is located atop the racks (except for the first row atop the racks). Bulk storage capacity is based on Bordeaux-size bottles.
(4) Total capacity is the sum of racked plus bulk capacity, with double-deep storage in all cases except the Contemporary Credenza (which is single-deep). Usable capacity may be lower by 2-3 bottles when the first few cells under the cooling unit are left empty for proper air circulation.

Q&A

Can this credenza be placed flush against a wall, or does it need clearance behind it?

A: Yes — the cabinet uses Le Cache's SB/0™ Technology with a top-vent exhaust, which means all heat is expelled upward rather than out the back. It can be positioned flush against a wall without any rear clearance requirement. This makes it genuinely practical for dining rooms, living spaces and finished basements where pulling a unit away from the wall isn't an option.

What is the real bottle capacity, and will it fit oversized bottles like Burgundy or Rhône?

A: Total capacity is 174 bottles: 150 racked slots at 3.8-inch spacing using double-deep storage, plus approximately 24 bottles in bulk stacking space. The universal all-wood interlock racks are designed to accommodate oversized bottles, so wider-shouldered Burgundy, Rhône and Napa Cabernet formats fit without needing to pull rack sections. The 3.8-inch slot width handles most standard and slightly larger bottles without modification.

How does this wine cabinet differ from a wine cooler when it comes to long-term aging?

A: Unlike wine coolers and household refrigerators, the Mission Credenza actively manages both temperature and humidity. The CellarPro cooling unit includes an adjustable humidity control system, which is critical for preventing cork desiccation over multi-year aging. Foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation and double-pane tinted glass provide thermal stability and UV protection — neither of which a standard cooler offers. If you’re aging Bordeaux or Burgundy for more than a year or two, those humidity and insulation specs matter more than temperature alone.

What are the electrical requirements and which CellarPro cooling unit should I choose?

A: The cabinet runs on a standard 115V AC / 60 Hz circuit. Three CellarPro 1800-series units are available: the 1800QTL-ECX (2.4A running / 14.2A startup), the 1800QT-ECX (2.9A running / 20.1A startup) and the 1800XT-ECX (3.0A running / 20.1A startup). The QTL is the quietest and most energy-efficient option; the QT and XT are better suited for higher ambient temperatures or greater thermal loads. A dedicated 20-amp circuit is recommended given the startup amp draw across all three models.

What does the warranty cover and for how long?

A: The cabinet carries a 2-year warranty on the entire unit and a separate 5-year warranty on the CellarPro cooling system. An optional extended warranty is also available for buyers who want coverage beyond those terms. The cooling unit warranty is backed independently by CellarPro, which manufactures its units in the USA.

What are the exact dimensions and weight, and will it fit through a standard doorway?

A: The cabinet measures 69 inches wide x 30.5 inches deep x 39 inches tall and weighs 350 lbs. At 69 inches wide, it will not pass through a standard 32- or 36-inch doorway intact — professional inside delivery and room placement should be planned in advance. The 39-inch height sits at credenza level, leaving the flat top surface usable for display or service. Verify your delivery path (hallways, stairwells, doorway widths) before ordering.

Expensive but worth every penny!

by -

A beautiful, quality piece of furniture which stores our wine collection at the perfect temp! Delivery was smooth and the shippers were very careful to bring the unit into our home and set it up. While it was more expensive than we had originally planned on spending; the quality, finish, style and the serviceability of the cooling system made this all worthwhile. Not a wine fridge but wine furniture! Thumbs wayyy up!

Great Fit and Finish, Capacity Slightly Lower than Advertised

by

Have had the Le Cache Mission Credenza for a bit over a month now. The QTL cooling unit results in a very quiet unit. The finish and look of the unit is impeccable. Delivery was OK. The only negative is that they advertise this unit as racked storage for 150 bottles. The rack they show as 7 rows by 5 columns, the rightmost column is blocked by the vertical stile for the leftmost door. This really results in the unit having racked storage for 140 bottles, as there is no way to get a bottle into those locations. If they located the cooling unit either further right or left, they could have lined the output of the cooling unit with the column that is unusable for storage because of the vertical stiles, making loosing that space less impactful to capacity.

Thank you for your feedback! You actually can add bottles to the blocked column by starting in one of the adjoining columns, then slide the bottle into the blocked column. It's definitely not ideal, but at least it's usable. Please let us know if you need any other assistance!

Le Cache Mission Credenza Review

by

We purchased the Le Cache mission credenza #878 and just love it. It is well made, holds the temp perfectly and looks great! A great addition to our room. Also it seems staff at your company is very accommodating. The delivery went smooth, the guys were experienced and professional. One complaint is that it is very difficult to read the registration number inside the unit. I apparently need that info to register for the warranty.

Looks Great!
