Details
When a collection has grown past the point where a single-zone cooler or converted closet can do it justice, the Le Cache Contemporary 5200 in Chocolate Cherry is the kind of answer that doesn't require a compromise. At 622-bottle total capacity — 544 individual racked slots plus bulk overflow for approximately 78 bottles — it holds a serious multi-region cellar in a single freestanding footprint, managed by a CellarPro cooling unit that delivers true temperature and humidity control rather than the on/off cycling of a standard refrigerator. The deep Chocolate Cherry finish on the cherry wood veneer reads as furniture in a dining room or library, not as an appliance, and the clean arched double-pane glass doors let the collection speak for itself.
The engineering is what separates this from a display piece. Foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation, sealed seams and tinted UV-blocking glass protect long-term aging conditions. SB/0™ Technology allows the cabinet to sit flush against the wall with top-vent exhaust, which matters for rooms where you can't sacrifice clearance on all sides. The CellarPro unit runs with an electronic thermostat, digital display and adjustable humidity control — with audible and visual alarms if conditions drift. All-wood interlock racks use 3.8-inch slots that accommodate oversized Burgundy and Champagne formats without modification.

What These Specs Mean
- Running vs. Startup Amps: Startup amps reflect the momentary surge when the compressor first kicks on — this figure determines whether your existing circuit can handle the load without tripping a breaker, and is the number to check with an electrician before installation.
- CellarPro 1800QTL-ECX vs. QT-ECX vs. XT-ECX: The three cooling unit options differ in capacity and startup draw — the QTL draws the least current at startup (14.2 Amps), making it the best fit for circuits shared with other loads, while the XT is sized for higher thermal demand environments.

Placement Requirements
PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS
POWER REQUIREMENT:
The power cord extends 6 1/2 feet from the rear of the cabinet. If an extension cord is used, it should be 14-gauge wire or thicker, grounded, and as short as possible.
The cooling unit plugs into a standard grounded wall outlet. We recommend adding a surge protector, rated at 15 amps or more (for example, click here), to protect the cooling unit from power surges.
The outlet must be on a dedicated circuit. The components of the cooling unit draw 3 amps, and the electric outlet on the side of the cooling unit also is rated for 3 amps. The cooling unit should not, under any circumstances, share a circuit with another motor or compressor-based appliance, like a wine cooler, fridge, air conditioner, or garage opener.
FLOOR SURFACE
Because of the significant weight of your wine cabinet, it is important that it be placed on a hard surface; otherwise, the cabinet may become skewed if the doors settle unevenly over time. If you will be placing your cabinet on thick carpeting, consider placing a carpet board underneath the wine cabinet. You can purchase a carpet board from Le Cache, or you can have your local hardware store cut a 3/4 inch plywood board to the following dimensions: 45w x 25d (inches).
DOOR SWING CLEARANCE
The doors of our wine cabinets swing wide by approximately 1 inch when open at 90 degrees. The additional width should be accounted for when purchasing cabinets that do not have moldings because the stated widths of our wine cabinets do not account for the door swing. Please note that the additional width is required in front of the cabinet.
WEIGHT LOAD FACTOR
After loading your wine cabinet with wine bottles, it will be extremely heavy. When selecting a location for your cabinet, make sure that the floor underneath is strong enough to support the weight of the cabinet.
TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS
CellarPro cooling units are designed to handle temperatures ranging from 50 to 95F.
VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS
The cooling unit generates hot air that must be exhausted in such a way that it won't be recirculated by the cooling unit. If the hot air cannot be dissipated or channeled properly, and the cooling unit is forced to recycle its own hot air, the cooling unit will be unable to maintain cold temperatures inside the wine cabinet and/or will overheat and/or will run all the time. Proper ventilation can be achieved in one of three ways:
- 1. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH TOP-VENT CONFIGURATIONS
Our upright wine cabinets have been engineered with top-vent cooling units and SB/0 Technology so that they can be placed right up against the wall. In this configuration, the hot air generated by the cooling unit is ventilated through the top of the wine cabinet, and the return air comes from above the wine cabinet, so there must be clearance above and to the sides of the cabinets for the hot air to dissipate, as follows: - Contemporary wine cabinets, Carolina wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets, Vault wine cabinets and a Semi-Custom wine cabinets require 18 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
- European Country wine cabinets and Mission wine cabinets require 12 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
- The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
- 2. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH Rear-Vent Configurations
Our upright wine cabinets can be configured so that the return air comes from behind the wine cabinet. This configuration is useful in situations where sufficient clearance around the wine cabinet doesn't exist. In this configuration: - If the rear of the wine cabinet is not accessible, a minimum clearance of 7 1/2 inches above the wine cabinet is required for removal and replacement of the cooling unit air filter.
- If the rear of the wine cabinet is accessible, a minimum clearance of 3 inches above the wine cabinet is required for proper airflow, and we recommend using our air deflector to direct the hot air exhaust to the left of the wine cabinet.
- In all cases, the wine cabinet must be placed 3-4 inches away from the rear wall.
- The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
- 3. UPRIGHT CABINETS with Front-Vent Hoods
If you want to place the wine cabinet flush against the wall but you don't have the required clearance (as outlined in Configuration 1 above), or you want to place the wine cabinet in an enclosed space, closet, or alcove, our front-vent hood (placed on top of the wine cabinet) can be used with 7 1/2 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet for removal of the hood and the air filter. Please note: - Contemporary wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets and Vault wine cabinets can use our front vent hood with OR without the decorative grill.
- European Country wine cabinets, Mission wine cabinets and Carolina wine cabinets can use our front vent hood without the decorative grill (the decorative grill will not fit with crown moldings).
4. CREDENZA WINE CABINETS
Credenza wine cabinets don't require any clearance above the wine cabinet; however, all credenzas require 3-4 inches of space behind the wine cabinet because all the ventilation (intake and exhaust) occurs behind the cabinet.

Please note:
(1) We count the top of the racks as 1 row when counting rows in our racks.
(2) Every slot in the racks is 3 3/4" and sized to fit oversized Burgundy and most Champagne-size bottles.
(3) Bulk storage is located atop the racks (except for the first row atop the racks). Bulk storage capacity is based on Bordeaux-size bottles.
(4) Total capacity is the sum of racked plus bulk capacity, with double-deep storage in all cases except the Contemporary Credenza (which is single-deep). Usable capacity may be lower by 2-3 bottles when the first few cells under the cooling unit are left empty for proper air circulation.
Q&A
Is the Le Cache Contemporary 5200 freestanding or can it be installed flush against a wall?
A: The 5200 is a freestanding cabinet that uses SB/0™ Technology, which means it can be placed directly flush against a wall without requiring clearance behind the unit. Exhaust vents through the top rather than the rear, so placement is flexible. At 74" wide x 29" deep x 86" tall and 510 lbs, it is best positioned on a level floor near a standard 115V outlet. It is not a built-in unit and does not require cabinetry surround or recessing.
What is the real bottle capacity, and will it fit oversized Burgundy or Champagne bottles?
A: The 5200 holds 622 bottles total — 544 in racked slots (3.8-inch slots with double-deep storage) and approximately 78 in bulk stacked space. The universal all-wood interlock racking is designed to accommodate oversized bottles, including large-format Burgundy and Champagne bottles that standard cooler racks often reject. If your collection skews toward larger formats, expect usable racked capacity to land somewhat below the 544 figure.
Does the 5200 actively manage humidity, and is it suitable for long-term aging?
A: Yes. Unlike wine coolers and refrigerators, which only control temperature, the 5200 includes adjustable humidity control through its CellarPro cooling unit. It maintains the humidity conditions required for long-term storage and aging — critical for preserving corks and preventing premature oxidation. Sealed seams, foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation and double-pane tinted glass work together to stabilize the interior environment against ambient temperature and UV fluctuations.
What are the electrical requirements, and which CellarPro cooling unit should I choose?
A: The cabinet runs on a standard 115V AC / 60 Hz circuit. Three CellarPro cooling units are available: the 1800QTL-ECX (2.4A running / 14.2A startup), the 1800QT-ECX (2.9A running / 20.1A startup) and the 1800XT-ECX (3.0A running / 20.1A startup). The QTL draws the least current at startup, which matters if you’re sharing a circuit. The right unit depends on your room’s thermal load — ambient temperature, insulation and sun exposure all factor in. A thermal load calculator is available on the product page to guide the selection.
How is the cooling unit warranted, and what does the cabinet warranty cover?
A: The warranty is split: 5 years on the CellarPro cooling system and 2 years on the entire cabinet. An optional extended warranty is also available for buyers who want longer coverage. The cooling unit is manufactured in the USA by CellarPro, a dedicated wine cooling specialist — not a rebranded appliance compressor.
How does the Chocolate Cherry finish look in person, and what interiors does it pair with?
A: The Chocolate Cherry finish is a deep, dark espresso-toned stain over premium Cherry wood veneer with hardwood door and furniture trim. Images show a very dark, near-black brown exterior that reads more ebony than traditional cherry red. It pairs well with dark walnut millwork, black steel and contemporary interiors. The clean double-door silhouette with stainless bar pulls and arched glass windows fits modern, Craftsman, Deco and Asian-influenced rooms without appearing ornate.
