Transtherm Ermitage Solid Black Full Shelf #17037
Overview
Unlike most other cellars, Transtherm cellars are equipped for both cooling and heating - perfect for use in colder climates or regions with a wide variation in seasonal temperatures. This wine cellar is configured with rolling shelves in every slot.
Details
When a collection reaches the point where a countertop cooler or closet conversion no longer holds everything, the Ermitage is where serious collectors land. Built in France by Eurocave under the Transtherm name, it stores 182 bottles across 14 adjustable rolling shelves in a single cellar zone held between 43 and 64°F — with interior temperature variation kept to within 2–3°F. A built-in heating element extends its operating range to ambient temperatures as low as 32°F, which means it can live in an unfinished basement, an unconditioned garage or a second home that sees real seasonal extremes without sacrificing temperature control.
The rolling shelves use low-profile grooves that accommodate Burgundy, Champagne and Bordeaux bottle shapes without reconfiguring anything. The compressor runs at 37 dBA and is mechanically decoupled from the cabinet body, so vibration reaching your bottles is negligible. A thermal pump actively manages internal humidity between 55% and 80%, and the aluminum interior — an upgrade from the earlier polystyrene liner — distributes temperature more evenly across the full 72-inch column.
Best For
- Transitioning out of a starter cooler into a cabinet that can age Bordeaux or Burgundy for a decade or more under genuine cellar conditions
- Installing in an unconditioned basement or detached garage where winter ambient temperatures drop near or below freezing
- Storing a mixed cellar with varied bottle formats — Burgundy pinots, Champagne and Bordeaux — where rolling shelves handle every shoulder shape without adjustment
- Adding 180+ bottles of capacity to a finished dining room or living space where compressor noise at 37 dBA is a real consideration

What These Specs Mean
- 15-Amp Dedicated Circuit: The cabinet must be wired to its own breaker, not shared with other appliances, so that voltage fluctuations or tripped breakers on a shared line cannot interrupt temperature control.
Q&A
Can the Transtherm Ermitage be installed as a built-in, or does it need open space around it?
A: The Ermitage is a freestanding cabinet and requires clearance to operate properly. It needs 3 inches behind the cabinet and 2 inches on each side and above. It cannot be recessed into cabinetry without those gaps maintained. If you are planning a built-in niche, you will need to account for those clearances in your framing.
How loud is this cabinet — is it quiet enough for a dining room or living space?
A: The Ermitage is rated at 37 dBA, which is comparable to a quiet library. Transtherm further reduces noise by using slow, balanced compressors that are physically dissociated from the cabinet’s body, eliminating the hum and vibration transfer common in standard wine coolers. It is suitable for placement in living areas, dining rooms or finished basements where ambient noise matters.
Will this cabinet work in an unconditioned garage or basement that gets cold in winter?
A: Yes — and this is one of the key differences from most wine cabinets on the market. The Ermitage includes an integrated heating element that allows it to operate in ambient environments ranging from 32°F to 95°F. Most competing cabinets only cool; the Transtherm both cools and heats to maintain the set internal temperature regardless of the season. It is one of the few consumer wine cabinets that can be placed in an unheated space without risk to the collection during winter.
Do the rolling shelves actually fit large-format Burgundy bottles, or are they sized for standard Bordeaux?
A: The Transtherm rolling shelves use low-profile grooves specifically designed to accommodate all standard bottle shapes, including the wider shoulders of Burgundy bottles. Each shelf holds 12 bottles in this configuration. The shelves are also height-adjustable, so you can reconfigure spacing if you are storing a mix of formats. The rated capacity of 182 bottles (14 full shelves plus 1 half shelf) assumes standard 750ml bottles; actual count will vary with larger formats.
What are the electrical requirements, and does it need a dedicated circuit?
A: The Ermitage runs on 120V / 60Hz and requires a dedicated 15-amp circuit. It should not be shared with other appliances. If you are placing two single Ermitage units side by side, each requires its own dedicated 15-amp circuit. Standard household outlets are 15- or 20-amp, but a dedicated run from your panel is required — confirm this with your electrician before installation.
What does the warranty cover, and how long does it last?
A: The Ermitage carries a 1-year limited warranty covering parts and labor, plus a separate 5-year limited warranty on the compressor. The compressor warranty is the more meaningful coverage for long-term reliability, since compressor replacement is the most costly repair on any wine cabinet. The unit is manufactured in France by Eurocave, the same company behind the EuroCave brand.

Transtherm Ermitage Wine Cabinet
by Del Rio Country Club -
I bought this transherm Ermitage model Transtherm Ermitage Solid Door Wine Cellar Black Fully Shelved, #17037. Everything from the Sales process to delievery and setup was amazing. I have just plugged in the cooler for 24 hours. But for now I am totally happy with IWA with both product and sales
Nice cooler but shelves a bit scratchy.
by Al
The product arrived on time. We waited 72 hours before plugging it in. It runs quietly and cooled nicely.
We bought the unit with all 14 rolling shelves installed. Several of them had been jostled off the tracking during shipping and several of the plastic shelf stabilizers had come loose. I was able to reengage them on the tracks with some moderate pressure and jiggering.
They generally now work fine "functionally" but about half of the selves make a scratching/rubbing sound when they are moved. I'm not sure if this is normal as the other half of the selves roll out without that sound. I attempted to make an adjustment to a shelf as indicated in the User Manual but the scratching noise remains. It glides fairly smoothly so maybe this is just the norm; some shelves just make a moderate amount of noise.
All in all the cooler seems fine just a bit irritating that the scratching noise happens with some shelves.

Doing business with IWA was an awesome experience. They were so professional and knowledgeable.
They guided me to the exact wine storage unit i was in need of. Could not be happier with my Transtherm Ermitage.

i ordered this unit to replace a Altavino unit for my garage. The unit arrived via white glove delivery and was set up. After the 48 hr waiting period before start up i turned it on and its been working flawlessly since. Very quiet although for being in the garage thats not a big deal. Its been warm in Edmonds since i got it and temps in my garage have approached 85 degrees already and the temp inside the wine cabinet barely moved. Very happy with it so far.
