Transtherm Ermitage Glass Door Black #7646
Overview
Unlike most other cellars, Transtherm cellars are equipped for both cooling and heating - perfect for use in colder climates or regions with a wide variation in seasonal temperatures.
Details
The Transtherm Ermitage is a full-height, 215-bottle wine cabinet built in France by Eurocave for collectors who need serious, long-term aging conditions rather than simple chilling. What sets it apart from most wine coolers is its ability to both cool and heat — holding internal temperatures steady within 2–3°F across ambient environments from 32 to 95°F, which means it can go into an unfinished basement, a garage or a second home without compromising the conditions your collection depends on. Its compressors are mechanically decoupled from the cabinet body, eliminating the vibration that quietly damages wine over years of storage.
Inside, the cabinet maintains a single zone between 43 and 64°F with humidity held between 55% and 80% RH via a thermal pump that recycles condensation — a Transtherm-exclusive system that removes the need for you to manage moisture manually. The aluminum interior and rolling shelves with low-profile grooves accommodate bottles of any size, and the shelf configuration is flexible: the standard setup runs three rolling shelves and three fixed storage shelves, but up to 14 rolling shelves are possible as your collection evolves. At 37 dBA, it runs quietly enough for a dining room or a finished living space.
Best For
- Long-term aging of Bordeaux, Burgundy or Rhône in a basement or unconditioned space where ambient temperatures swing seasonally
- Replacing a kitchen cooler or closet conversion when a collection has grown past 100 bottles and precision storage becomes non-negotiable
- Installing in a dining room or finished space where a near-silent unit and a glass door matter as much as performance
- Collectors planning to grow their cellars over time and needing a shelf configuration that can scale with capacity

What These Specs Mean
- 15-Amp Dedicated Circuit: The cabinet cannot share a breaker with other appliances — a separate circuit must be run to its outlet, which typically requires an electrician if one is not already in place at the installation location.
Q&A
Is the Transtherm Ermitage freestanding only, or can it be installed as a built-in?
A: The Ermitage is a freestanding cabinet. It requires 3 inches of clearance behind the unit and 2 inches on the sides and above for proper ventilation. It cannot be recessed into cabinetry without maintaining those clearances. If you're planning a dining room or kitchen remodel, factor that perimeter into your layout - the cabinet measures 26¾” wide × 27¼” deep × 72” tall.
How loud does the Ermitage run in a living space or dining room?
A: The Ermitage is rated at 37 dBA, which is near the low end of a quiet library. Transtherm achieves this through slow, balanced compressors that are mechanically disassociated from the cabinet body, which also eliminates vibration that can disturb wine sediment over long aging periods. For open living spaces, this is one of the quieter options at this capacity level.
Can this cabinet actually hold 215 bottles, or is that a best-case number?
A: The 215-bottle figure is the as-configured count using the included setup: 3 rolling shelves at 12 bottles each and 3 fixed storage shelves at up to 77 bottles each. The rolling shelves use low-profile grooves designed to accommodate different bottle shapes, including large-format Burgundy and Champagne bottles. If you add more rolling shelves (up to 9 rolling shelves when keeping all 3 fixed), total capacity decreases. You can go up to 14 rolling shelves total if you remove the fixed shelves, though that significantly reduces overall bottle count.
Will this cabinet work in an unheated garage or basement that gets cold in winter?
A: Yes. The Ermitage includes an integrated heating element that allows the cabinet to operate in ambient environments from 32°F to 95°F (0–35°C). Most wine cabinets only cool and will fail or fluctuate in unheated spaces during winter. This heating capability is a Transtherm design feature that makes it genuinely suitable for garages, unconditioned basements and secondary homes with seasonal temperature swings.
What temperature and humidity does the Ermitage maintain, and how precisely?
A: The Ermitage operates as a single-zone cabinet, maintaining internal temperatures between 43°F and 64°F with a maximum variation of 2–3°F - tight enough for long-term aging of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhône. Humidity is held between 55% and 80% RH via a thermal pump that recycles condensation. You can also manually increase humidity by adding water to the system. There is no dual-zone capability; this cabinet is optimized for uniform cellar-condition storage, not simultaneous serving-temperature chilling.
What are the electrical requirements, and is a dedicated circuit necessary?
A: The Ermitage runs on 120V / 60Hz and requires a 15-Amp dedicated circuit. It cannot share a circuit with other appliances. If you're placing this in a finished room or basement where no dedicated circuit currently exists, factor in the cost of electrical work before installation. The cabinet weighs 252 lbs, so plan for inside delivery and placement before the circuit is finalized.

Transtherm Review - the Best Wine Cellar Cabinet
by Bradley T
Easily the best wine cellar cabinet I have owned, this lives up to the specifications including look, configuration of shelves to accommodate odd-shaped bottles, temperature control and quiet operation. I purchased another unit and returned it due to various problems. This is my second IWA cabinet. The first one lasted over 20 years, but I went for one of the many inexpensive brands that are actually made in China, and was disappointed. I will only purchase from IWA in the future. The real value is in paying a reasonable price for a high quality unit. I love the rolling shelves.
Great Unit, Perfect Showcase for At-Home Wine Collection
by J. Newton
I saved a bit extra to get this unit over some of the lesser units I have seen, and I am a very happy customer. The build quality and utter SILENCE of this unit make it worthwhile.
I have had it running for 2 weeks now, and I have never been happier with a purchase for my home.
Still haven't gotten the unit after 3 weeks
