Details

When a collection of 400 or more bottles outgrows a cooler or closet conversion, the Gallery 5200 is the cabinet to consider. At nearly 76 inches wide and 86 inches tall, it holds 588 bottles in a single freestanding unit — 510 in all-wood interlock racks with 3.8-inch slots wide enough for large-format bottles, plus roughly 78 in bulk stacked storage below. The Shale finish, a cool gray-green over Cherry veneer, reads as furniture in a dining room or finished basement, and tinted double-pane glass on both the doors and the sides keeps the collection visible from multiple angles without UV exposure.

What separates this cabinet from a wine refrigerator is the CellarPro cooling system and how it manages the interior environment. Temperature and humidity are both controlled with digital precision — not just temperature — which matters for long-term aging of structured reds that need cork integrity over years, not just cold storage. Foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation, sealed seams and magnetic gaskets create an airtight envelope, and the top-vent exhaust with SB/0™ Technology allows the cabinet to sit flush against a wall without requiring rear clearance. For rooms where ambient temperatures exceed 75F, the CellarPro 1800XTS is the appropriate cooling unit; the 1800QT handles cooler environments efficiently. Both options run on standard 115V AC.

Best For

  • Housing a collection of 400–588 bottles that needs stable cellar conditions in a living space rather than a dedicated wine room
  • Aging Bordeaux, Napa Cabernet or Rhône reds where sustained humidity control is as important as temperature
  • Finished basements or dining rooms where the cabinet needs to function as furniture while still operating as serious storage
  • Collectors who access their bottles frequently and want the full inventory visible and organized without unlocking a cellar

Features

  • Active humidity control, not just temperature: Unlike standard wine coolers and refrigerators that regulate temperature only, the integrated CellarPro unit manages both temperature and humidity with digital precision - critical for long-term cork integrity and aging.
  • Cooling unit selection depends on room conditions: To hold 55F in ambient temps above 75F (up to 85F max), the 1800XTS-HE is required. In cooler rooms, the 1800QT-HE is sufficient. This cabinet ships with a choice of compatible CellarPro 1800-series units; verify your room's ambient range before ordering.
  • 588-bottle total capacity with two storage modes: 510 individually racked slots at 3 3/4-inch spacing (fits standard and most oversized bottles) plus approximately 78 bottles of bulk stacking space - useful for case lots or larger-format bottles.
  • SB/0 zero-clearance placement: The top-vent exhaust and rear engineering allow the cabinet to sit flush against a wall with no rear gap required, which matters in finished rooms where built-in appearance and space efficiency are priorities.
  • Glass on doors and sides: All three front sections and both sides use double-pane tinted glass - not just the front doors. Tinting blocks UV. The side glass panels are visible in the images and are a key differentiator for display-facing installations.
  • Foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation: A higher R-value insulating material compared to standard expanded polystyrene used in most residential wine cabinets, contributing to more stable interior temperatures and lower compressor run time.
  • High Performance Air Filtration System with a serviceable top-access filter (see filter top-view documentation for replacement guidance).
  • Energy-Saver and Quick-Chill operating modes, audible and visual alarms, and an optional bottle probe for core-temperature monitoring
  • Warranty: 5 years on the CellarPro cooling unit, 2 years on the full cabinet; optional extended warranty available

Placement Requirements

PLACEMENT & VENTILATION

Before choosing a location for your Le Cache wine cabinet, make sure the installation meets the following requirements.

BASIC PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Power: Standard grounded outlet on a dedicated circuit
  • Room Temperature: 50–95°F
  • Floor: Hard, level surface capable of supporting the fully loaded cabinet
  • Door Clearance: Allow approximately 1 inch of additional width in front of the cabinet for the doors to open 90°
  • Ventilation: Requirements vary depending on the cabinet and cooling configuration

VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS

Proper ventilation is essential. The cooling unit exhausts warm air, which must be able to dissipate without being drawn back into the unit. Poor ventilation can prevent the cabinet from reaching the desired temperature and may cause the cooling unit to overheat or run continuously.

SUMMARY

Configuration Minimum Clearance Behind Minimum Clearance Above Open Sides Required? Suitable for Alcove?
Upright Cabinet / Top-Vented — 12 inches or 18 inches Yes No
Upright Cabinet / Rear-Vented 3–4 inches 3 inches or 7 1/2 inches Yes No
Upright Cabinet / Top-Vented + Front-Vent Hood — 7 1/2 inches No Yes
Credenza 3–4 inches None required Yes No

1. UPRIGHT CABINET / TOP-VENTED

Our upright wine cabinets with top-vented cooling are designed so the cabinet can be placed directly against the rear wall.

Warm air exhausts through the top of the cabinet, while return air enters from above. Sufficient clearance above and around the cabinet is therefore required.

Minimum clearance above the cabinet:

  • 18 inches: Contemporary, Carolina, Loft, Vault and Semi-Custom wine cabinets
  • 12 inches: European Country, Mission and Gallery wine cabinets

Important: The sides of the cabinet must remain open so that warm air can dissipate. Top-vented upright cabinets should not be placed in a corner, enclosed space, alcove or closet unless a Front-Vent Hood is used.

2. UPRIGHT CABINET / REAR-VENTED

Upright wine cabinets can also be configured with rear-vented cooling, with return air entering from behind the cabinet. This configuration is useful when sufficient clearance above the cabinet is not available.

Requirements:

  • The cabinet must be positioned 3–4 inches away from the rear wall.
  • If the rear of the cabinet is not accessible, allow at least 7 1/2 inches above the cabinet so the cooling-unit air filter can be removed and replaced.
  • If the rear of the cabinet is accessible, allow at least 3 inches above the cabinet for airflow. We also recommend an air deflector to direct warm exhaust air to the left of the cabinet.

Important: The sides of the cabinet must remain open. Rear-vented upright cabinets should not be placed in a corner, enclosed space, alcove or closet unless a Front-Vent Hood is used.

3. UPRIGHT CABINET / TOP-VENTED + FRONT-VENT HOOD

A Front-Vent Hood can be added to a top-vented upright cabinet when:

  • The cabinet will be placed flush against the rear wall but does not have the required clearance above for a standard top-vented installation
  • The cabinet will be installed in an alcove, closet or other enclosed space

Allow at least 7 1/2 inches above the cabinet for removal of the hood and air filter.

Compatibility:

  • Contemporary, Loft and Vault: The Front-Vent Hood may be used with or without the decorative grille.
  • European Country, Mission, Carolina and Gallery: The Front-Vent Hood may be used without the decorative grille. The grille will not fit with the crown moldings.

4. CREDENZA

Credenzas do not require clearance above the cabinet; however, because both intake and exhaust ventilation occur behind the cabinet, credenzas require 3–4 inches of clearance behind the cabinet, and the sides must remain open for proper ventilation.

POWER REQUIREMENTS

The cooling unit plugs into a standard grounded wall outlet. The power cord extends approximately 6 1/2 feet from the rear of the cabinet.

The outlet must be on a dedicated circuit. The cooling unit components draw 3 amps, and the electrical outlet on the side of the cooling unit is also rated for 3 amps.

Do not share the circuit with another motor- or compressor-driven appliance such as a refrigerator, wine cooler, air conditioner or garage door opener.

We recommend using a surge protector rated for at least 15 amps to protect the cooling unit from power surges.

If an extension cord is necessary, use a grounded cord with 14-gauge wire or heavier, and keep it as short as possible.

FLOOR & WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS

A fully loaded wine cabinet is extremely heavy. Make sure the floor can support the combined weight of the cabinet and wine.

The cabinet should also be placed on a hard, level surface. On thick carpeting, the cabinet may settle unevenly over time, which can affect door alignment.

If installing on thick carpet, place a carpet board beneath the cabinet. You may purchase one from Le Cache or have a local hardware store cut a 3/4-inch plywood board to the width x depth of the cabinet.

DOOR SWING CLEARANCE

When opened to 90 degrees, the doors extend approximately 1 inch beyond the width of the cabinet.

For cabinets without moldings, allow for this additional space when planning the installation. The extra clearance is required in front of the cabinet for the doors to open fully.

Please note:
(1) We count the top of the racks as 1 row when counting rows in our racks.
(2) Every slot in the racks is 3 3/4" and sized to fit oversized Burgundy and most Champagne-size bottles.
(3) Bulk storage is located atop the racks (except for the first row atop the racks). Bulk storage capacity is based on Bordeaux-size bottles.
(4) Total capacity is the sum of racked plus bulk capacity, with double-deep storage in all cases except the Contemporary Credenza (which is single-deep). Usable capacity may be lower by 2-3 bottles when the first few cells under the cooling unit are left empty for proper air circulation.

Q&A

What is the actual bottle capacity, and will it fit oversized bottles like large Burgundy or Napa Cabernet shapes?

A: The Gallery 5200 holds 588 bottles total — 510 in individual racked slots spaced at 3.8-inch centers, plus approximately 78 bottles in bulk stacked storage. The all-wood interlock racking is designed with universal sizing to accommodate oversized and non-standard bottle shapes, so large-shouldered Napa Cabernets and wider Burgundy-style bottles fit without modification.

Can the Gallery 5200 be placed flush against a wall, or does it require clearance behind the cabinet for ventilation?

A: The 5200 uses top-vent exhaust combined with Le Cache’s SB/0™ Technology, which means the cooling unit vents upward rather than out the back — the cabinet can sit flush against a wall with no rear clearance required. This makes it practical for finished dining rooms, living spaces and basement installations where you don’t want to lose depth to an air gap.

Which CellarPro cooling unit should I select, and does my room temperature affect that decision?

A: The right unit depends on the ambient temperature where the cabinet will live. To reach 55°F inside the cabinet, choose the CellarPro 1800QT-ECX (2.9 running amps) if your room stays at or below 75°F. If ambient conditions regularly exceed 75°F — up to a maximum of 85°F — step up to the CellarPro 1800XTS-ECX (3.6 running amps). The 1800XT-ECX sits between the two at 3.0 amps. All units run on a standard 115V AC / 60 Hz circuit.

Does this cabinet actively manage humidity, or just temperature?

A: Unlike wine coolers and residential refrigerators that control only temperature, the Gallery 5200 actively manages both temperature and humidity via the CellarPro cooling unit. It features Adjustable Humidity Control with a digital display, which is essential for long-term aging — maintaining correct relative humidity prevents cork desiccation and protects labels over years or decades of storage.

Is this a single-zone cabinet, and what temperature range does it support?

A: The Gallery 5200 is a single-zone cabinet maintaining one uniform temperature throughout the interior. It is designed for long-term aging storage, with the CellarPro system capable of reaching 55°F in ambient environments up to 85°F. If you need to store reds and whites at separate service temperatures simultaneously, a dual-zone unit would be a better fit — this cabinet is built for collectors aging wine, not for mixed-temperature serving.

What do the warranties cover, and how long are they?

A: The cabinet carries a 2-year warranty covering the entire unit, and the CellarPro cooling system carries a separate 5-year warranty. An optional extended warranty is also available for buyers who want longer-term coverage beyond those terms.

I'd recommend it but with caveats

Steph - | 6/14/2026 7:24 am

The GOOD
- A design so much better than regular wine cellars.
- Compressor is replaceable and when it dies there's no need to dump the whole system (at the difference of regular wine cellars.
- Very stable temperature
- Very high capacity in a single compact system.

The BAD
- Rather noisy despite the noise dampening add-on

The UGLY
- It keeps running all the time: Under AC temperature in my house is set to 77 and 57 the cellar temperature target. I measured several times the cycles and the compressors is ON for periods of ~11 minutes and re-engages after ~6 minutes only. It means the compressor works about 16 hours a day. Concerning and costly.

Thank you for your feedback. Please make sure the sound hood is seated properly to gain the maximum sound dampening. We recommend using a bottle probe if you would like to extend the cycle times of the cooling unit. If there's anything else we can do to assist, don't hesitate to let us know.
