Details

When a collection of several hundred bottles has moved beyond what a cooler or closet conversion can handle, the Euro 3800 is the kind of cabinet that resolves the problem for good. Designed by Pinnacle Award-winning designer Martin de Blois, it holds 458 bottles across 408 racked slots and a bulk storage section, housed in a Cherry wood veneer case with hardwood French doors, crown and base moldings, hand-carved wood trim and hand-turned pewter pulls with security locks. At 63" wide and 91" tall, it reads as furniture first — the kind of piece that earns its footprint in a dining room or a finished basement without looking like equipment.

The refrigeration is handled by a CellarPro cooling unit, which manages both temperature and humidity digitally — a meaningful distinction from wine coolers and standard refrigerators that cycle temperature without controlling moisture. Foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation and double-pane tinted glass seal the interior against thermal and UV intrusion, while SB/0™ technology allows the cabinet to sit flush against the wall with top-vent exhaust. The all-wood interlock racking has 3.8" slots that accommodate oversized bottles, and an energy-saver mode keeps operating costs in check over the long term.

Best For

  • A collection of 300–458 bottles that has outgrown a single-zone cooler and needs a dedicated, humidity-controlled environment for long-term aging

What These Specs Mean

  • Running vs. Startup Amps: The compressor draws far more current at startup than during normal operation; the startup amp figure is what sets the minimum circuit breaker capacity your installation requires.
  • Cooling Unit Selection (QTL / QT / XT): Three CellarPro models are available, each with different running and startup amp draws; the right model depends on your room's ambient temperature and heat load, which the Thermal Load Calculations guide is designed to help determine.

Placement Requirements

PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS

POWER REQUIREMENT:
The power cord extends 6 1/2 feet from the rear of the cabinet. If an extension cord is used, it should be 14-gauge wire or thicker, grounded, and as short as possible.

The cooling unit plugs into a standard grounded wall outlet. We recommend adding a surge protector, rated at 15 amps or more (for example, click here), to protect the cooling unit from power surges.

The outlet must be on a dedicated circuit. The components of the cooling unit draw 3 amps, and the electric outlet on the side of the cooling unit also is rated for 3 amps. The cooling unit should not, under any circumstances, share a circuit with another motor or compressor-based appliance, like a wine cooler, fridge, air conditioner, or garage opener.

FLOOR SURFACE
Because of the significant weight of your wine cabinet, it is important that it be placed on a hard surface; otherwise, the cabinet may become skewed if the doors settle unevenly over time. If you will be placing your cabinet on thick carpeting, consider placing a carpet board underneath the wine cabinet. You can purchase a carpet board from Le Cache, or you can have your local hardware store cut a 3/4 inch plywood board to the following dimensions: 45w x 25d (inches).

DOOR SWING CLEARANCE
The doors of our wine cabinets swing wide by approximately 1 inch when open at 90 degrees. The additional width should be accounted for when purchasing cabinets that do not have moldings because the stated widths of our wine cabinets do not account for the door swing. Please note that the additional width is required in front of the cabinet.

WEIGHT LOAD FACTOR
After loading your wine cabinet with wine bottles, it will be extremely heavy. When selecting a location for your cabinet, make sure that the floor underneath is strong enough to support the weight of the cabinet.

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS
CellarPro cooling units are designed to handle temperatures ranging from 50 to 95F.

VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS
The cooling unit generates hot air that must be exhausted in such a way that it won't be recirculated by the cooling unit. If the hot air cannot be dissipated or channeled properly, and the cooling unit is forced to recycle its own hot air, the cooling unit will be unable to maintain cold temperatures inside the wine cabinet and/or will overheat and/or will run all the time. Proper ventilation can be achieved in one of three ways:

  • 1. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH TOP-VENT CONFIGURATIONS
Our upright wine cabinets have been engineered with top-vent cooling units and SB/0 Technology so that they can be placed right up against the wall. In this configuration, the hot air generated by the cooling unit is ventilated through the top of the wine cabinet, and the return air comes from above the wine cabinet, so there must be clearance above and to the sides of the cabinets for the hot air to dissipate, as follows:
    • Contemporary wine cabinets, Carolina wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets, Vault wine cabinets and a Semi-Custom wine cabinets require 18 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
    • European Country wine cabinets and Mission wine cabinets require 12 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
    • The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
  • 2. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH Rear-Vent Configurations
Our upright wine cabinets can be configured so that the return air comes from behind the wine cabinet. This configuration is useful in situations where sufficient clearance around the wine cabinet doesn't exist. In this configuration:
    • If the rear of the wine cabinet is not accessible, a minimum clearance of 7 1/2 inches above the wine cabinet is required for removal and replacement of the cooling unit air filter.
    • If the rear of the wine cabinet is accessible, a minimum clearance of 3 inches above the wine cabinet is required for proper airflow, and we recommend using our air deflector to direct the hot air exhaust to the left of the wine cabinet.
    • In all cases, the wine cabinet must be placed 3-4 inches away from the rear wall.
    • The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
  • 3. UPRIGHT CABINETS with Front-Vent Hoods
If you want to place the wine cabinet flush against the wall but you don't have the required clearance (as outlined in Configuration 1 above), or you want to place the wine cabinet in an enclosed space, closet, or alcove, our front-vent hood (placed on top of the wine cabinet) can be used with 7 1/2 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet for removal of the hood and the air filter. Please note:
    • Contemporary wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets and Vault wine cabinets can use our front vent hood with OR without the decorative grill.
    • European Country wine cabinets, Mission wine cabinets and Carolina wine cabinets can use our front vent hood without the decorative grill (the decorative grill will not fit with crown moldings).

4. CREDENZA WINE CABINETS
Credenza wine cabinets don't require any clearance above the wine cabinet; however, all credenzas require 3-4 inches of space behind the wine cabinet because all the ventilation (intake and exhaust) occurs behind the cabinet.

Please note:
(1) We count the top of the racks as 1 row when counting rows in our racks.
(2) Every slot in the racks is 3 3/4" and sized to fit oversized Burgundy and most Champagne-size bottles.
(3) Bulk storage is located atop the racks (except for the first row atop the racks). Bulk storage capacity is based on Bordeaux-size bottles.
(4) Total capacity is the sum of racked plus bulk capacity, with double-deep storage in all cases except the Contemporary Credenza (which is single-deep). Usable capacity may be lower by 2-3 bottles when the first few cells under the cooling unit are left empty for proper air circulation.

Q&A

Can the Euro 3800 be placed flush against a wall, or does it need clearance behind it?

A: The Euro 3800 uses Le Cache's SB/0™ Technology, which means it can sit flush against a wall with zero rear clearance required. Exhaust vents through the top, so you only need overhead clearance above the cabinet — not behind it. This makes it practical for dining rooms, finished basements and alcove placements where pulling the unit away from the wall isn't an option.

What are the real bottle capacity numbers, and will it fit oversized Burgundy or Champagne bottles?

A: Total capacity is 458 bottles408 racked slots at 3.8-inch spacing and approximately 50 bottles in bulk stacking space. The all-wood interlock racks use a universal design that accommodates oversized bottles including large-format Burgundy and heavier Bordeaux shapes, so the 408-bottle racked count holds up better in practice than cabinets designed only for standard 750ml Bordeaux bottles.

Does this cabinet manage humidity, or is it just temperature control?

A: The Euro 3800 provides active humidity control in addition to temperature regulation — this is a key distinction from wine coolers and standard refrigerators, which cool but don't manage humidity. Foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation and double-pane tinted glass maintain the sealed environment, and the CellarPro unit includes an adjustable humidity control system. For long-term aging of Bordeaux, Burgundy or any wine with a natural cork, sustained humidity is what prevents the cork from drying out and allowing premature oxidation.

What are the electrical requirements, and does it need a dedicated circuit?

A: The cabinet runs on 115V AC / 60 Hz, standard US household current. Startup (inrush) amperage varies by cooling unit: the CellarPro 1800QTL-ECX draws 14.2 amps at startup and 2.4 amps running; the 1800QT-ECX draws 20.1 amps at startup and 2.9 amps running; the 1800XT-ECX draws 20.1 amps at startup and 3.0 amps running. Given the startup amp draw, a dedicated 20-amp circuit is the practical recommendation, particularly for the QT and XT variants.

What does the warranty actually cover, and for how long?

A: The warranty is structured in two tiers: 5 years on the CellarPro cooling unit and 2 years on the entire cabinet. An optional extended warranty is also available. The cooling unit warranty is notably longer than what most competitors offer on the refrigeration system, which is relevant given that the compressor is the most likely component to require service over a 10–20 year ownership period.

Is this a single-zone or dual-zone cabinet, and what temperature range does it maintain?

A: The Euro 3800 is a single-zone cabinet, meaning the entire interior is held at one temperature. It is designed and built specifically for long-term aging conditions rather than simultaneous red and white serving temperatures. The CellarPro cooling unit provides electronic thermostat control with a digital display, plus Energy-Saver and Quick-Chill modes. Collectors who want to store reds for aging and keep a smaller batch of whites at serving temperature typically pair a cabinet like this with a separate smaller cooler for ready-to-drink bottles.

Beautiful furniture that works very well

by

Beautiful piece of furniture, and it works great. Its huge though! Make sure to measure well. Fortunately it fits perfectly in my space. It was not easy to get it in the house, given how large and heavy it is. The door between the kitchen and dining room was too small, so they had to deliver through the front door which required steps. So also measure well to figure out how it will fit during delivery. But I'm thrilled with it now that its there. It seems very well made and fits all my wine nicely.

Le Cache Euro 3800

by

Love my new wine cabinet. Perfect size for the space I had. Delivery was professional. The costumer service checking prior to delivery to be sure it would work for me was assuring.. If I could make any improvements it would be to have it dual zones for colder white wines and to have the light come on and off when opening the door. Living in Arizona I appreciated the alarm when I had an air conditioner failure.

Pleased, but...

Quality control should have caught the dramatic difference in color (stain) between the main unit and the crown. I am pleased with the response, but I should not have to go through this ordeal considering the cost of the unit!

It looks fantastic!
