Details

When a collection outgrows a basic cooler but a full built-in installation isn't practical, this cabinet fills the gap cleanly. It's freestanding, self-contained and sized to anchor a dining room, a finished basement or a second home without requiring a buildout — and the six available exterior finishes (Unstained, Black Lacquer, Chestnut, Coffee, Driftwood and Mahogany) let it coordinate with existing millwork rather than stand apart from it. Driving the whole thing is the CellarPro 1800H Houdini, a commercial-grade cooling unit that maintains the temperature consistency long-term aging actually demands.

Triple-deep peg metal racking holds bottles label-forward, so you can read and pull without disturbing the rest of the rack. Standard capacity runs to 168 racked bottles plus bulk storage for two cases, with extended racks pushing that to 192 bottles — enough room for a serious Bordeaux and Burgundy collection with space left to grow. Double-pane glass on the doors and side panels keeps the interior thermally stable while keeping the collection visible. Door locks, remote-controlled LED lighting and crown molding come standard. The semi-custom positioning also means lead times run weeks, not months, and the price is lower than a fully custom equivalent with the same core hardware.

Best For

  • Moving a 150–200 bottle collection from an underpowered cooler into dedicated, temperature-stable storage for the first time
  • Outfitting a dining room or basement bar where the finish needs to integrate with existing cabinetry rather than clash with it
  • Aging tannic reds over five or more years in a living space without the cost or complexity of a built-in cellar room
  • Managing a mixed collection where label-forward peg racking makes daily inventory and selection faster

Placement Requirements

PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS

POWER REQUIREMENT:
The power cord extends 6 1/2 feet from the rear of the cabinet. If an extension cord is used, it should be 14-gauge wire or thicker, grounded, and as short as possible.

The cooling unit plugs into a standard grounded wall outlet. We recommend adding a surge protector, rated at 15 amps or more (for example, click here), to protect the cooling unit from power surges.

The outlet must be on a dedicated circuit. The components of the cooling unit draw 3 amps, and the electric outlet on the side of the cooling unit also is rated for 3 amps. The cooling unit should not, under any circumstances, share a circuit with another motor or compressor-based appliance, like a wine cooler, fridge, air conditioner or garage opener.

FLOOR SURFACE:
Because of the significant weight of your wine cabinet, it is important that it be placed on a hard surface. Otherwise, the cabinet may become skewed if the doors settle unevenly over time. If you will be placing your cabinet on thick carpeting, consider placing a carpet board underneath the wine cabinet. You can purchase a carpet board from Le Cache, or you can have your local hardware store cut a 3/4 inch plywood board to the following dimensions: 69.5w x 25d

WEIGHT LOAD FACTOR:
After loading your wine cabinet with wine bottles, it will be extremely heavy. When selecting a location for your cabinet, make sure that the floor underneath is strong enough to support the weight of the cabinet.

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS:
CellarPro cooling units are designed to handle temperatures ranging from 50 to 95F.

VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS:
The cooling unit generates hot air that must be exhausted in such a way that it won't be recirculated by the cooling unit. If the hot air cannot be dissipated or channeled properly, and the cooling unit is forced to recycle its own hot air, the cooling unit will be unable to maintain cold temperatures inside the wine cabinet and/or will overheat and/or will run all the time.

Proper ventilation can be achieved by ensuring that sufficient space exists above the cabinet, where the hot air generated by the cooling unit is exhausted. This is because the return air also comes from above the wine cabinet, so there must be sufficient space above and to the sides of the cabinets for the hot air exhaust to dissipate.

We recommend 18 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet, depending on the airflow conditions in that area. Also, note that the sides should be open to the left and the right of the cabinet. In other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove or closet is not advised.

Q&A

What cooling unit does this cabinet use, and is it capable of long-term wine aging?

A: The cabinet ships with the CellarPro 1800H Houdini — a dedicated wine cooling unit engineered for stable cellar-grade temperature and humidity management, not a repurposed beverage cooler compressor. It is built to maintain the consistent conditions required for long-term aging of Bordeaux, Burgundy and other age-worthy bottles. The refrigeration system carries a 2-year warranty on the entire system and a 5-year warranty on the compressor. An extended warranty for the cooling unit is also available separately as item #31488.

What wood finish options are available, and which work best with high-end dining room millwork?

A: Six finishes are offered: Unstained, Black Lacquer, Chestnut, Coffee, Driftwood and Mahogany. Chestnut and Mahogany read warmly against traditional walnut or cherry cabinetry. Coffee and Black Lacquer integrate with darker contemporary interiors. Driftwood suits transitional or greige-painted spaces. Unstained shows the natural hardwood grain and pairs well with lighter wood millwork or natural-finish furniture.

What is the real bottle capacity, and can the peg racking accommodate both Bordeaux and Burgundy bottle shapes?

A: The standard configuration holds 168 racked bottles plus bulk storage for 2 cases (24 bottles) at the base. With extended racks, the racked capacity increases to 192 bottles. The triple-deep peg metal racking uses a label-forward pin system where each bottle rests on two horizontal pegs. Because bottles are not confined to fixed cubbies, the system accommodates varying diameters — standard Bordeaux, wider Burgundy and Champagne shapes — without wasting rack positions.

Is this cabinet freestanding or can it be recessed as a built-in?

A: This is a freestanding unit. It includes a built-in base molding and a separate crown molding — standard details for a furniture-style cabinet that stands against a wall. At 58 inches wide and 19½ inches deep (not including handles), the shallow depth means it fits against most walls without projecting significantly into the room. There is no recessed or built-in installation configuration specified for this model.

What are the warranty terms and how long does it take to ship?

A: The cabinet structure is covered by a 1-year warranty. The CellarPro 1800H refrigeration system carries a 2-year warranty on the entire system and a 5-year warranty on the compressor. An extended warranty for the cooling unit is available as a separate purchase (item #31488). Typical processing time before shipment is 2–3 weeks.

How does the semi-custom version differ from a fully custom cabinet?

A: Semi-custom cabinets come in standard sizes with a defined set of choices for stain color, interior finish, racking and exterior hardware. That standardization allows them to ship in 2–3 weeks at a lower price point than fully custom units. Fully custom cabinets are available through IWA when dimensions, configuration or finish specifications fall outside what the semi-custom program covers.
