Cooling Unit Sound Levels
The sound level (in decibels) for each cooling unit is disclosed on the product detail page for each product under the specifications tab. Sound is measured in dbA, generally when standing in front of the wine cabinet by 3 feet.
We measure the sound level using precision instruments, which are much more accurate and reliable than apps that can be downloaded on smartphones.
Acoustics in the area where the cabinet is located will dramatically affect (ie amplify or reduce) the sound level. For example, hard surfaces like hardwood or tile floors, cathedral ceilings, and an absence of window coverings will serve to amplify the level of noise. In contrast, soft surfaces like wall-to-wall carpeting, low ceilings and curtains will reduce the level of noise from the cooling unit.
We offer the following two options to reduce the noise from the cooling unit.
For credenzas and top-vented upright cabinets: The sound hood reduces noise by 2-3 decibels. For images, restrictions and more information, click on the following link: Sound Hood.
For top-vented upright cabinets: The front vent hood (with or without a grill) is slightly larger, and reduces by 3-4 decibels. For images, restrictions and more information, click on the following link: Front Vent Hood.
