CellarPro HA2 Alarm
CellarPro cooling units are designed to trigger an HA2 alarm when the temperature at the condenser coils gets too hot. HA2 alarms generally occur when:
- The temperature of the fresh air intake exceeds the design parameters of the cooling unit, and/or
- The condenser (hot side) fan isn't turning, and/or
- In hot conditions and/or ducted applications, variable-speed fans should always should be turned to the highest setting and/or
- The filter and/or condenser coils must be clean and free of blockages and/or
- Our filters are custom-made for our cooling unit, and should never be replaced with filters that are not purchased from CellarPro
- Airflow on the hot side of the cooling unit is restricted or too small for the hot air exhaust to dissipate, and/or
- Ducting on the hot side of the cooling unit is incorrectly installed or too restrictive, and/or
- The thermal load of the wine cellar or cabinet exceeds the capacity of the cooling unit, therefore the cooling unit isn't able to cycle and turn off periodically
When your cooling unit flashes an HA2 alarm, please do the following:
For units that have been installed and worked through a summer season without issue:
- There are multiple fans in each cooling unit. The HA2 alarm is related to the fan on the hot side of the cooling unit - in other words, the fan that is located outside (NOT inside or ducted to) the wine cellar.
- Check to see if the hot-side fan is working when the fan icon is lit on the digital display. If the fan is not spinning, check to see if the cold-side fan is having the same issue. THEN TURN OFF THE UNIT IMMEDIATELY.
- Once the unit is "Off'", check to see if the fan blades on each fan will spin freely
- If the fans are working properly, clean the condenser coils and/or replace the filter on the hot side of the cooling unit. Our fiberglass filters are designed to be replaced every 6-9 months; they are not designed to be cleaned. Our aluminum and vinyl filters should be cleaned every 6-9 months.
For new installations, confirm proper installation:
- The fan speed should on "high" until the cellar reaches temp and the cooling unit is cycling. For ducted installations, the fan must always remain on "high"
- The hot side of the cooling unit must not pull or push air from or into the wine cellar
- The cold side of the cooling unit (intake and exhaust) must be completely captured inside the wine cellar.

- Check for appropriate ventilation on the hot side of the cooling unit. If the space is too small or restricted for the hot air exhaust to dissipate, you may need to add our ducting and/or reposition the ducting to separate the hot air exhaust and the fresh air intake.
- Check for any obstructions to the intake and exhaust at the rear of the cooling unit, or reducers in the ducting.
- If the hot side of the unit is recessed, make sure to separate the exhaust from the intake with an insulated board. Depending on the length of the recessed space and the cooling unit, you may need to add auxiliary fan support to overcome the static pressure that occurs from the restricted space.
- If you have vent covers where the airflow terminates, they may be too restrictive for the cooling unit. To test, remove the duct covers and see if the problem is resolved. If so, you will need to replace with less restrictive duct covers.
If the hot side of the unit is ducted:
- The auxiliary fan MUST be operating when the cooling unit is cycling
- The fan should be facing towards the cooling unit if installed on the intake side or away from the cooling unit (preferred) if installed on the exhaust side
- The ducting must be 6" diameter (or equivalent) from start to finish
1800H and VS Series
- Always use the HIGH fan speed
- Use ALL screws to attach the duct plate to the rear hood, especially the center screw between the duct collars
- The power cord snap bushing in the center baffle of the hood MUST be in place
If the cooling unit is an outdoor unit:
- Make sure the outdoor portion of the equipment is shaded and not in direct sunlight
- The fan speed should be on "high"
- If the outdoor portion of the cooling unit is NOT EXPOSED to the elements (ie rain or snow), remove the hood to increase air circulation
- If the fresh air intake is coming from outside, it may need to be redirected so that it pulls intake from a conditioned space
- Cool off the ambient environment at the rear of the cooling unit (eg add a fan to increase airflow)
- 1800 Series The maximum intake temperature should not exceed 95F
- VS Series The maximum intake temperature should not exceed 110F
- Turn off or remove any sources of heat inside the cellar (eg wine coolers, steam humidifiers, certain lighting)
- If you have a VS unit:
- Turn off the condensate evaporator,
- Turn the fan to the "high" fan speed.
- Check for any gaps where the cellar door closes against the doorframe
If the recommendations above do not resolve the issue, please leave the unit "Off" for 10 minutes, then gather the following information.

Pictures of the installation, front and rear, closeup and stepping back. Please note: in order to best assist you, we need at least the 4 pictures requested: ie a closeup of the entire unit AND a picture showing the unit in the installed environment for both the front and the rear of the cooling unit.
If the hot side of the unit is ducted, let us know if the exhaust and intake come from different spaces. If so, let us know how big is the space where you're ducting from and to.
If the condenser fan is working, then turn the unit "on" and wait for the SNOWFLAKE and FAN icons to light up
- Once the 2 icons are lit, press the "SET" button for 3 seconds and record the number
- Press the "SET" and "DOWN" buttons together until the control flashes, then scroll until you see HY, press "SET" and record the number
- Press the "SET" and "DOWN" buttons together until the control flashes, then scroll until you see dP3, press "SET" and record the number. This number must be recorded 4 more times (5 total) at 2 minute intervals over a 10 minute period.
