Le Cache Wine Cabinet Door Replacement Instructions

THESE INSTRUCTIONS EXPLAIN HOW TO REPLACE A DOOR AND INSTALL HINGE PINS WITHOUT REPLACING THE HINGE PLATES. FOR INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO REPLACE DOORS AND HINGE PLATES, PLEASE CALL LE CACHE AT 1.877.532.2243.

OLD DOOR REMOVAL

1. Close door, but do not lock.

2. Stand on stool or ladder, and remove the three phillips head screws from top hinge plate (attached to the CABINET). Save these screws!

3. Lift the hinge plate off the cabinet. The hinge plate should slide off the hinge pin.

4. Grip door edges and slide straight up face of the cabinet until free of the bottom (load bearing) hinge plate.

5. IMPORTANT! Save shim washers used on lower hinge to equalize door height (if any).

HINGE PIN INSTALLATION ON NEW DOOR

If the replacement hinge pins and are exact duplicates of the old hinges, follow steps 6 & 7. Otherwise, skip to steps 8 & 9 below:

6. Take the following measurements of the hinge pins at the top and the bottom of the OLD door:

  • Moving from the front to the back of the cabinet, measure the distance from the center of each screw hole to the inside edge of the door along the top of the door (Measurement “A”)
  • If replacing the Right Door: Moving from left to right along the door, measure the distance from the center of each screw hole to the right edge of the door (Measurement “B” – Right Door)
  • If replacing the Left Door: Moving from right to left along the door, measure the distance from the center of each screw hole to the left edge of the door (Measurement “B” – Left Door)
7. On the NEW door, use the measurements to position each hinge pin at the top and the bottom of the door:
  • Using Measurement “A”, draw a line from the edge of the door inward
  • Using Measurement “B”, draw a line for each screw from the inside edge of the dor to the front of the door
  • Place the hinges on the door so that each screw hole is centered above the intersection of Measurement “A” and Measurement “B”
  • Mark the spots where the hinge screws will be drilled into the door
  • Drill a pilot hole for each hinge screw
  • Attach the hinge pins by screwing each screw into the pre-drilled holes

If the replacement hinge pins are different from the existing hinge pins, do the following:

8. Take the following measurements of the hinge pins at the top and at the bottom of the OLD door:
  • Moving from the front to the back of the cabinet, measure the distance from center of the pin to the inside edge of the door along the top of the door (Measurement “A”)
  • Right Door: Moving from left to right along the door, measure the distance from the center of the pin to the right edge of the door (Measurement “B” – Right Door)
  • Left Door: Moving from right to left along the door, measure the distance from the center of the pin to the left edge of the door (Measurement “B” – Left Door)
9. On the NEW door, use the measurements to position each hinge pin at the top and the bottom of the door:
  • Using Measurement “A”, draw a line from the edge of the door inward
  • Using Measurement “B”,draw a line from the inside edge of the door to the front of the door
  • Place each hinge on the door so that the pin is centered above the intersection of Measurement “A” and Measurement “B”
  • Mark the spots where the hinge screws will be drilled into the door
  • Drill a pilot hole for each hinge screw
  • Attach the hinge pins by screwing each screw into the pre-drilled holes

NEW DOOR INSTALLATION

10. Check that the brass bushing is still intact on lower hinge plate. Stack shim washers (if any - see Step 5 above) onto bushing.

11. Hold door by edges, square to cabinet, and let the magnetic gasket attract to the metal face strips.

12. Gently slide door down cabinet face until the bottom hinge pin engages the lower hinge plate bushing through any shim washers. Make certain hinge pin seats completely into brass bushing, and that the top horizontal run of the gasket has not snagged on the cabinet roof.

13. Re-mount top hinge plate using the existing screw holes and screws.

TEST THE SEAL OF THE NEW DOOR

1. Close the door on a dollar bill placed flat in between the door's gasket and the cabinet.

2. You should not be able to slide the dollar bill PARALLEL to the gasket. If the dollar bill slides easily, the door may not be sealing properly.

3. Repeat the test for all four sides of the door. Pay particular attention to the corners of the door.
